we overheard a guide in the vatican museum (!) giving that idiotic spiel about how Mary’s mantle is painted blue because “blue was a very expensive pigment so it showed off the Church’s wealth”. how do so many people just repeat this like they can’t tell the difference between azurite and ultramarine??
