Everything about time management is a pain for developers: time zones (and the locales that ignore them or go half-way), leap seconds, all of it is messy and weird and human. And DST is the worst aspect of it by far.

My first professional coding job as part of a team was in a Java shop, and there was a running joke along the lines of “Only Java would have a class called SimpleDateFormat which is anything but simple.”
