What’s everyone’s preferred OS?
Windows utilizing WSL
MacOS
Linux - if so, what distro?
Would really love to hear about your setups too!
machines: nixos or arch. de is i3 with a lot of customisation
servers: debian but quickly shifting to alpine
@taigrr@ndl.taigrr.com nice choice! also i’m watching grlx, looks really great
@novaburst@twt.nfld.uk i’m starting to feel that sanity with alpine. as much as i enjoy declarative configuration with nix, it’s like an erector set gone mad.
@prologic@twtxt.net now imagine for a moment if you stripped proxmox virt layer and ran swarm on 3x metal. that would indeed be metal af and a bit of warp-speed.
Wow! Thanks everyone for your responses!
Currently using Zorin on my XPS - I often change between this and Ubuntu - which isnt good i know haha Distro Jumping. (I’m relatively new with Linux - but the more I use it, the more I love it!)
Main PC is still Windows, but this is where I learnt the most of the command line, using WSL.
Then I have a Macbook with the M1 chip that really doesn’t see much use :/
Thanks again for all the responses! It’s amazing to see how everyone uses some in similarity but then how different your choices are as well :)
Can I also ask, what’s your reason for not using Windows? Just the security/privacy concerns? Or you find Linux easier/more faithful?
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org I am relatively a green thumb to all of this, what exactly does i3 enable you to do?
@ullarah@txt.quisquiliae.com it’s absolutely amazing how a computers lifespan on Windows seem like 3-5 years (some cases longer) but most Linux distros seem like they could make a P4 seem peppy! Haha
Do you still game? If so how do you work around that? Would cloud services like geforce now appeal to you or would you prefer to game on instanced windows?
