It suddenly occurred to me that I’ve become that guy: the guy who rents a car with a fancy touchscreen center console and immediately goes to the “About” page in the console settings to look at the open source licenses.
The problem I have with the vast majority of social movements, left or right, is that they often lead to projection instead of introspection. Instead of person A trying to decide how person B can treat person C better, person A should try to decide how person A can treat person C better.
When I’m flying in a plane and I look out the window down at the ground, I wonder if anyone on the ground is looking back up at me.
I might be in the minority on this, but given what small Web projects like Gemini aim to achieve, I don’t like the idea of establishing standards for Gemini capsules purely for the purpose of aiding automation.
I’m excited for the travel I’m going to be doing over the next few days, but the downside is that I’m not going to have much time to sleep.
Summing the first n odd positive integers yields n^2. For twisty puzzle enthusiasts, an interesting consequence of this is that a Pyraminx has the same number of stickers per face as a Rubik’s Cube, a Master Pyraminx has the same number of stickers per face as a Rubik’s Master Cube, and so on.
All the scripts on my Gemini capsule (except chess) have now been rewritten using Python and storing data in a SQLite database. This is the first time I’ve ever worked with database in a “production” environment, and I’m inordinately excited.
Random thought: I think Freddie Mercury looked better with short hair than with long hair.
The only thing I’ll say about Roe v. Wade is this. Overturning the decision does not make abortions illegal, it establishes that the legality of abortions is not within the purview of the Federal government–a stance that also blocks Republicans from enacting a federal-level abortion ban.
I’m reminded today that books are still a great form of entertainment. Secondhand books in particular are always plentiful and cheap–a big plus in times of supply chain squeezes and rampant inflation.
My Gemini log posts have been getting very long recently.
This week I suddenly started receiving messages from at least three different e-mail lists–lists from which I’d previously unsubscribed and have not interacted with since. Two of them have unsubscribe links that tell me I’m already unsusbcribed. Is this happening to anyone else?
There are some Gemini feeds that Antenna is failing to connect to, and it looks like it’s clogging up the log pretty badly. I hope it’s not putting too much strain on the server.
I might be opening a big can of worms with this question, but what is the utility of Spartan over Gopher?
Work just sent out a communication about drawing up 5 year plans. I don’t have to start referring to my coworkers as “comrade”, do I?
The Fusion arcade stick for Switch is pretty good, though probably not worth the MSRP of $130 USD. I’d give it a solid 8 out of 10.
I was hoping to relax with some friends at a bar tonight, only to find that bars are even less my scene than they were seven years ago. Lesson learned.
I don’t use social media anymore, mostly for privacy reasons, but one of the things I miss about it is being able to interact directly with creators I enjoy.
I’ve noticed a gradient of skepticism about climate change, ranging from outright contradiction that it exists to debates about the specific measures needed to reverse acknowledged warming trends. Using the general term “climate change denial” to describe that entire gradient, and thus treating all forms of skepticism as equally ignorant, seems counterproductive to me.
If the only thing you write in your changelog is “Fixes and improvements”, why bother with a changelog at all?
The rise of tags on online articles saying how many minutes it takes to read them says, to me, a lot about our breakneck-speed culture.
LibreELEC dropped the RPi1 in August. There’s so little software left for the thing. All the more reason to devote mine to Gemini, I guess.
@prologic@prologic The immediate context was deconstructed movie characters, but I find I’m also tiring of deconstructed foods, deconstructed philosophy, deconstructed art, etc.
I find myself increasingly disinterested in “deconstruction”, in every context.
It’s a breath of fresh air to see very small YouTube channels that post unscripted videos and actually have interesting things to say.
Off to my first health check-up in 3 ½ years. I’m almost 40 pounds lighter than I was back then, so I hope this goes well.
Modern society compels us to avoid uncomfortable introspection, but current events repeatedly show us how necessary that introspection is.
I swear I will figure out how to twtxt properly one day
@prologic@prologic://twtxt.net/user/prologic/twtxt.txt The news first broke several days ago, but I didn’t see photo confirmation until today. I might have just been late :P
The An-225 Mriya, the world’s largest aircraft, has been destroyed. https://www.airlinerwatch.com/2022/02/has-worlds-most-iconic-aircraft-225.html
Turkish Airlines 981 crashed outside Paris 48 years ago today, the first of 4 high-profile crashes that killed the reputation of the DC-10.
I just found out that my posts are visible on twtxt.net. I don’t have an account there, so I apologize if I don’t see a reply there!
Google no longer allows in-app donations that don’t go through Google Play. https://github.com/streetcomplete/StreetComplete/issues/3768
“IRS.gov is now using ID.me to log in!” Awesome, the credetials for US taxpayers are passing through a registrar located in Montenegro.
I passed my AWS Solutions Architect Associate recert exam!
Gemini seems like a great community to revive the concept of the pen pal. Would anyone be interested in doing that?
Everything SHOULD be straightened out with the twtxt file and regular access to the capsule now. This post should be visible!
Boot drive failed on the server that hosts my Gemini capsule’s headless repo. Now there will officially be no updates until it’s fixed!
Capsule activity will be slow over this week and the next. I’m frantically trying to re-up my AWS certs before they expire in two weeks.
I’ve temporarily removed Urbit as a method of contact. My ship needs to be breached and I don’t want to spend the ETH to do it right now.
I almost always get 90 or 91 on Blastix Riotz EXH. 94 is absolutely unheard of for me.
Poor night of sleep, woke up late, and spilled a full cup of milk in my car. I hope that’s the last of the unfortunate events today!
Time for my first visit to the dentist in well over half a decade. I really need to be better about getting these things on my calendar.
I got a Kobo Clara HD in the mail yesterday, but the screen was cracked right out of the box. Time to ship it back and get a replacement.
I need to stop tinkering with this script so much. It already does what I need it to do.
This is my first official cross-post to twtxt using my offline microblog script. Hello, world!
