Man, these maps sure are detailed. It’s like one could have a car navigate around with all this information.

“You’ll hear irrelevant, personalized music…” wait, what?
Live Text? I could use that occasionally.
Focus changes: useful for people who let themselves get inundated with junk notifications like what’s trending on Reddit. Me? Eh.

I wonder how much use 🧮 (abacus) gets. I think there’s a page that describes emoji usage, but I’d need to look it up.
There are three ninja emojis in this post.
And now I sit myself down to a pleasant afternoon of nervously wondering how similar liquid-at-room-temperature coconut oil is to coconut-derived MCT oil.
I put my mouse on my Mac on the right side for reasons. My Windows machine always has the mouse on the right. Wanted to go Back on my Mac and…pressed mouse4, just like I’d do on Windows. Muscle-memory prompts are…interesting.
I wrote “I don’t think price exists.” in a text document and predicted that later on I would be totally and utterly mystified what I meant by it originally. Turns out, that prediction was entirely correct.
One of the problems with trying to get to inbox zero is that some of the older messages deserve to be saved but don’t really belong in any kind of final resting place…
@niplav@niplav.github.io Re: Liber Augmen: Not a whole lot of it is new to me either, but I thought the method of delivery (a single page full of short descriptions of things) is super interesting as a mindspace-delivery device
@niplav@niplav.github.io I like it, but you probably shouldn’t take only my word for it. I suspect it’s piggybacking a lot off of how much I liked its SNES predecessor and know/like the vibe of * Mana games. Also, the last three JRPGs I’ve played were Dragon’s Dogma, NieR:Automata, and…Chrono Trigger. I don’t know what’s good and new in JRPGs ever since Square left Nintendo. I’m just glad they’re back.
Been playing Trials of Mana on the weekend, but for some reason I’ve been humming music from Secret of Mana during the rest of the week.
@niplav@niplav.github.io Speaking of ontologies, you’ve heard of https://www.liberaugmen.com/, right?
@niplav@niplav.github.io Re: … < sharing ontologies: There’s an idea. If I want to write something, anything, documenting the words and concepts I use isn’t the dumbest idea.
That said, I wouldn’t buy orange-blossom water just to dump into my tea. It’s much more useful as a cheesecake-batter addition, but in order to draw it down in a timely fashion I’d have to bake two cheesecakes a week.
Discovery of the day: if you have some extra orange-blossom water lying around that you want to use up before it goes bad, you could do worse than to splash some in your cup of black tea.
@mox@tilde.town welcome back!

@niplav@niplav.github.io Ah, that clears it up.

@niplav@niplav.github.io “adrationalism” is probably better. “irrationalism” sounds like a pie-appreciation club for math nerds.
I love it when an app comes together
According to my fish history, the previous post was not the first one of mine that started with “In case you were wondering…” and I’m not sure how to feel about that.
In case you were wondering, taking a couple pairs of damp shorts fresh from the washing machine into a room and pointing a fan at them will raise the room’s humidity.
@niplav@niplav.github.io I wouldn’t disagree with your characterization of people who’re interested in radical life extension, but their messaging, generally, seems to not mention “adding life to your years” at all. “Live to be 150” doesn’t sound all that great if you’re going to have 15 years of being in your 80s, so to speak.
@niplav@niplav.github.io yeah, normal signatures suck, too. I’m just not convinced the change in tradeoffs is worth it. Oh, and no, it didn’t come off as too mean.
@niplav@niplav.github.io I sign a lot less stuff these days now that my phone can pretend to be a credit card. Also: an impostor with a quantum computer can’t pretend to sign documents on my behalf…
@niplav@niplav.github.io Seems like most of the (radical) life extension people are interested in adding years to their lives, but agnostic about adding life to their years. “Be old longer” doesn’t appeal to a lot of people.

@niplav@niplav.github.io Re: selection pressure against meditation: go on…
@niplav@niplav.github.io Re: not guaranteed to see it: I wouldn’t have bothered waving hi across the Internet if I hadn’t gotten bored one day and grepped my webserver logs for twtxt users.
Never thought I’d want a 6K monitor, but I’m running VS Code and it sure would be nice to have a little bit more width. The proper layout for the task I’ve been doing is four editors wide, plus some more space on the left for a file picker.
@niplav@niplav.github.io Re: rats: YOU ARE NOT ALONE
Did a 20-minute meditation session. Didn’t achieve enlightenment, but I managed to think up the kernel of a moderately interesting blog post.
Sure, you can make a bunch of predictions at the beginning of the year and calculate the Brier score for last year’s predictions, but all you need to do to feel that kind of cloud-dispelling mental work is this: go pants shopping, think of how good you’ll be at losing fat in light of all your previous new-year fat-loss attempts, and choose between pants with a 34″ inseam and pants with a 35″ inseam.
In case you’re reading my twtxt.txt file directly or are otherwise paying close attention to tweet dates, it’s absolutely true: I haven’t been funny in two months.

When you take stretch breaks every hour it’s a good idea to get up and step away from the keyboard. It is less obvious what you should do when the stretch-break notification comes and you’ve been using a standing desk the entire time.
