College Campuses Have Become a Front Line in America’s Sports-Betting Boom
Since the Supreme Court struck down the federal prohibition on sports betting in 2018, 39 states have legalized the activity, and college campuses have emerged as ground zero for what appears to be a generational gambling problem among young men. A 2023 NCAA survey found that 60% of college students have gambled on sports, and 1 … ⌘ Read more

@zvava@twtxt.net @movq@www.uninformativ.de I’m not entirely sure about the spaces, but maybe they were omitted to simplify parsing of mentions in the form of @<nick url>. If the next token after the @<nick does not look like a URL, it’s not a mention but regular text. This is just wild guessing, though.

Looking at the regex and tests in the original twtxt reference implementation seems to confirm that theory in the sense as it relies on whitespace as the delimiter:

https://lyse.isobeef.org/tmp/screenshot-2025-09-17-21-30-25.png

Another thing about nicks is that the original twtxt reference implementation converts nicks to all lowercase:

https://lyse.isobeef.org/tmp/screenshot-2025-09-17-21-20-39.png

You probably know this already, the original twtxt file format specification can be found here: https://twtxt.readthedocs.io/en/latest/user/twtxtfile.html

As for extensions, I don’t know of anything outside of twtxt.dev that has actually been (partially) implemented. However, there is also the issue tracker of the official reference implementation. You might wanna dig through that. For example, there is an alternative suggestions of multiline messages: https://github.com/buckket/twtxt/issues/157

In-reply-to » Just discovered how easy it is to recall my last arg in shell and my brain went 🤯 How come I've never learned about this before!? I wonder how many other QOL shortcuts I'm missing on 🥲

@aelaraji@aelaraji.com I use Alt+. all the time, it’s great. 👌

FWIW, another thing I often use is !! to recall the entire previous command line:

$ find -iname '*foo*'
./This is a foo file.txt

$ cat "$(!!)"
cat "$(find -iname '*foo*')"
This is just a test.

Yep!

Or:

$ ls -al subdir
ls: cannot open directory 'subdir': Permission denied

$ sudo !!
sudo ls -al subdir

great long run. had a few places in mind to try and visit (tun tavern, rocky steps, the river thing) and hit them all with not really any idea where they were. pretty much just went tourist mode taking pictures and reading signs. it was so freaking cold! 22F i think. took the beanie off and the sweat had turned to ice, and my torso was all red from the rubbing of my clothes.

(#2024-09-24T12:39:32Z) @prologic@twtxt.net It might be simple for you to run echo -e "\t\t" | sha256sum | base64, but for people who are not comfortable in a terminal and got their dev env set up, then that is magic, compared to the simplicity of just copy/pasting what you see in a textfile into another textfile – Basically what @movq@www.uninformativ.de also said. I’m also on team extreme minimalism, otherwise we could just use mastodon etc. Replacing line-breaks with a tab would also make it easier to handwrite your twtxt. You don’t have to hardwrite it, but at least you should have the option to. Just as i do with all my HTML and CSS.

@movq@www.uninformativ.de I’m glad you like it. A mention (@<movq https://www.uninformativ.de/twtxt.txt>) is also long, but we live with it anyway. In a way a replyto: is just a mention of a twt instead of a feed/person. Maybe we chould even model the syntax for replies on mentions: (#<2024-09-17T08:39:18Z https://www.eksempel.dk/twtxt.txt>) ?!

St Petersburg Distance Classic Marathon: 26.41 miles, 00:11:23 average pace, 05:00:39 duration
first marathon down. everything that could go wrong did. honestly i am just proud i did not quit. now i have to look at the run and figure out what i can tweak or add to my training. had a cramp start in my right quad at around mile 15. then around mile 18 both of my calves started to feel odd as if someone was lightly strumming my tendons. then they seized! this continued for the remainder of the marathon where i would walk then try to run and then stop when i had to. then during the entirety of the pace my nose would not stop dripping making it difficult to breathe. ha! also my shorts almost came down twice and i had to re-tie them while carrying my handheld water in my teeth. seriously, so many things i did not expect and had not happened in any previous runs.

really happy to be able to eat spicy food and have some alcoholic beverages again though!

practiced a marathon pacing strategy (simulated) of 5km/10mi/10mi/5km. went pretty well even though i was going faster than the paces at each step. but overall i felt good. also scouted out one of the two overpasses i will have to climb during the race. definitely nothing compared to the regular ones. freezing! started at 33F and ended at 45F. pretty lonely out there because the cold kept everyone inside.
