@david@daiwei.me Wanna try again? đ
@david@daiwei.me Okay đ
@david@daiwei.me No idea đ€· We shall see! haha đ
@david@daiwei.me Ahhh so you had a WebP you downloaded from somewhere on your Phone and youâre trying to uploaded it via the Twtxt.App? đ€
@david@daiwei.me Is this from your camera, or some other source of WebP somewhere? đ€
@david@daiwei.me Why not indeed đ Iâm taking nearly a whole month off from Sept 10 to Oct 6 Haha đ€Ł
@david@daiwei.me It absolutely was a steam bath. sweat sweat
@david@daiwei.me Ta! I only noticed that at the computer but not when I took the photo. :-)
What have you been up to, @kiwu@twtxt.net? Already melted in this brutal heat?
In light of recent events, check out your mentions. :-)
@itsericwoodward@itsericwoodward.com @prologic@twtxt.net Sounds about spot on.
@itsericwoodward@itsericwoodward.com Third time luck⊠oh wait. Maybe youâll find the disks again in the colder season. Still sounds like a good time with your mate in the outdoors. :-)
Looks like the sign had also been hit with one or the other disk over time. :-D
I really do find it difficult to follow anyone that basically posts to a wall, or doesnât follow back. Itâs utterly pointless not being able to have a conversation, like basically, at all. Maybe itâs not even anyoneâs fault? Maybe just a sucky client that doesnât understand how User-Agent works in Twtxt Discovery? đĄ
@david@daiwei.me youâre quite possibly right!
@prologic@twtxt.net Nice choice!
I was always partial to those 194x-style âbullet hellâ games. đ©ïž
@itsericwoodward@itsericwoodward.com And⊠Are there basically a lot of âvillage idiotsâ? đ€
@david@daiwei.me Yes it does!
C. This threw me off so bad, and it took me an unreasonable time to wrap my head around the difference between the precisions of floats and doubles. đ„Č
@aelaraji@aelaraji.com Hahaha, I donât recall when I first stumbled across it, but Iâm sure it must have been the same experience you had.
Ignoring the consistent fuck-up of the decimal point (German reverses comma and dot, we use a comma as the decimal separator and the dot as the thousands separator), they managed to print the amount correctly in most e-mails. But the âshipping is underwayâ e-mail is broken. For ages.
@dce@hashnix.club @prologic@twtxt.net Weâre getting cooked at humid 36°C right now. The thundergods canât decide if weâll be hit or not.
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org this reminds me of when Iâd started learning C. This threw me off so bad, and it took me an unreasonable time to wrap my head around the difference between the precisions of floats and doubles. đ„Č
@dce@hashnix.club nah thatâs pretty hot đ„”
@david@daiwei.me I donât know what you mean, we never bribe our photo subjects with treats. đ
She usually keeps most of them on all night, although her rear-end is prone to escaping.
@movq@www.uninformativ.de I understand. Take a break and bear up! Still looking forward to any of your stuff. :-) Thank you very much for all the great things I learned from you and wonderful conversations we had. In a while, crocodile. :-)
@movq@www.uninformativ.de You will always have a welcome âvirtualâ home around here đ€
@david@daiwei.me Sorry, I canât do this anymore. A large part of my work (text, code, thoughts, âŠ) of the last 20-25 years has been stolen and is now being sold at rampant prices to idiots who then complain about me being a backwards bitch (I get to hear this every single day). Everything I say and do in public is being abused.
Fuck that, Iâm out.
@david@daiwei.me Thanks, mate! I just finished my two full version marking gauges. And Iâm rather pleased with them, I think they turned out great if I say so myself.
https://lyse.isobeef.org/tmp/streichmass-mit-messerrad/
The beech fences (80 and 100mm long) were part of a former table frame that I cut down. I plugged the dowel holes with, well, dowels. The horrific looking one was the stuck original one, though. Luckily, itâs a hell lot worse on camera than in person. If you take a close look, youâll also be able to see the large but slight chamfers one one side each that I just left alone.
I really like beech wood. It looks beautiful, is rather heavy (at least in comparison to spruce which I typically use) and thus rock solid, is also a blast to plane and the list goes on. I sanded it with 180 grit and itâs smooth as a babyâs bottom.
The 25mm beech round stocks that house the brass knurled nuts are now roughly 4cm long. Thatâs one thing I wanted to change right after my first experience. If they were rounded or chamfered more, it would probably be even nicer for the fingers when using the marking gauge. Theyâre sunken in roughly 3mm in the fences. A forstner bit made quick work. This simplified alignment during glue-up a lot. Will definitely do that again if I happen to build more. I could fully concentrate on the grain orientation and it didnât shift around.
Just like in the prototype, I used 8mm aluminium solid round bar again for one of the marking gauges. Itâs also about 15cm in length. I figure thatâs enough. The bought marking gauge has a twenty-something and some change steel rod. So far, all my markings didnât even exceed probably 50mm.
I found the 8mm brass pipe laying around on the workshop. Didnât know anymore I had it for ages. Unfortunately, the wall thickness is below a millimeter, so my 6mm wooden dowels are sliding in there. Thus, I put 8mm dowels in my drill chuck and reduced the diameter with a rasp. I went a tiny bit too far, the press fit is on the loose side. When drilling with a 2mm drill (I did that on purpose to hopefully cause the dowel to expand a bit more in the pipe, typically the tap hole for M3 is 2.5mm) and tapping M3, the downsized and glued in dowel slipped down the pipe. Should have used construction adhesive or something along those lines. Anyway, I might replace it with a solid one. I consider this a half-successful experiment. I fear that an unfavorable grain direction might pull out the cutting wheel during use. Letâs see.
The finish of all three is boiled linseed oil. It looks nice, but oh by, this smell. I really dislike it. My hands stink even after washing them several times. I still got several liters left, so I have the dubious joy to use it on many, many other projects to come.
Oh, one last thing. Didnât manage to drill the tiny holes for my M3x16 bolts perfectly in center like for the prototype. Theyâre a tiny bit off. Also, on the longer fenced marking gauge, the hole for the knurled nut is a little to the side and at an angle. No idea how I messed this up. Luckily, itâs just a look thing but doesnât impair use.
@javivf@adn.org.es Oh, I like the looks of that.
GTD was undoubtedly the best developed task-management system I ever got into (and I tried a bunch in my time), but even it wound up being too much work for me to keep up with. An app like that might streamline it enough to make it usable. Thanks for the link!
@david@daiwei.me Weâre slowly getting there. Very slowly. 8-)
@chrisgarrod@twtpub.com Hello đ Welcome to Yarn.social / Twtxt đ
@david@daiwei.me I bet, youâre absolutely right. ;-) Letâs start the countdown: 10, âŠ
@arne@uplegger.eu @david@daiwei.me Most do actually look really good, but of course I prefer the birds. :-)
Canât have them all, because itâs even harder to spot counterfeit notes I reckon.
@david@daiwei.me Hahaha, I love it! :â-D I need very high precision pliers.

But now Iâm owed something for that! Nearly made up for it. I can use the new clamp to press hard and shrink the coin a bit.
@movq@www.uninformativ.de give up on what?
@movq@www.uninformativ.de LOL đ€Ł
@david@daiwei.me Iâll find one đ
@movq@www.uninformativ.de âwhen this stuff still matteredâ LOL, true :-D
Right, the good old pen test! Never gets old. :-D
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org That sounds pretty elaborate. We did something similar last year (when this stuff still mattered, lol), but it was super easy to spot.
And then there was this, of course:
đ€Ł
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Zur Hardware zurĂŒckzugehen merke ich hier (noch?) nicht. Aber sonst alles andere, ja und ja. Ganz genau.
@movq@www.uninformativ.de When a mate was learning Czech a few years ago, he sometimes told us about some crazy words and sentences. But it could very well be that these were out of norm extremes. Not sure. Youâre right, I also expected a little worse. :-)
@thecanine@twtxt.net Hahaha, this is cool! :-D
@thecanine@twtxt.net This is brilliant, I love it. đ
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org there is a Czech song, intentionally written to include no vowels except âaâ, with âaâ being included in every word, except the one letter long ones:
https://youtu.be/eB1cL4I5OZ8
This is obviously not common, and the author is a legend for accomplishing this.
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org Hmm! I expected worse. đ (Never heard Czech in person.)
@prologic@twtxt.net I only have one potential machine for this: My old netbook. I donât want to accidentally brick it, though ⊠đ It was scary enough to run my own OS on this.
@david@daiwei.me if you have some weekend home type place, with no Internet, getting TV through an antenna and a DVBT box, my recommendation is to just buy some old Dell monitor with HDMI to 3.5mm audio output built in, so you can connect speakers to it.
Doesnât have to be Dell, but you can often just buy one of those from your employer, for under $25 here.
Were this sadly makes much less sense, in with Internet TV services. Those usually need a dedicated TV app to function and while that can be replaced with a $200 TV box, that some providers force you to rent, thus making you pay more for your Internet TV forever - this also means giving up the âarchive appâ, that gives you access to all the on demand content, included in the price of your mandatory TV license. None of these overpriced boxes come with it, as theyâd mauch rather make you pay, for yet another subscription service instead.
So yes, you can kinda do it with an Internet TV too, assuming you trust the expensive box to not spy on you, but in that case youâre mostly just paying a whole lot more, for a lot less, than you would be, with the LG TV.
@david@daiwei.me I donât believe in impossible! đ€Ł
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Good question. Short answer, I donât know. But Iâll look at this a bit more closely.
@movq@www.uninformativ.de No I havenât :/
Just out of curiosity, have you ever ran this on real hardware? đ
Only QEMU. Would you like to help test it on real hardware? đ Iâm not sure I have anything worth testing it on!
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Maybe itâs already too late âo clock, but I donât find it overwhelmingly crazy. The Czechs, on the other hand, do they even know what vowels are? :-D
@prologic@twtxt.net Just out of curiosity, have you ever ran this on real hardware? đ
Hm, interesting: https://git.mills.io/prologic/muos/src/branch/main/nucleus/nucleus.asm Youâre clearing the VGA buffer in each mode (real mode, protected mode, long mode). Whyâs that? Wouldnât it be good enough to only do that after youâve reached long mode? đ€
