@shinyoukai@neko.laidback.moe there you go! What I am trying to say is, if @prologic@twtxt.net truly wants to be able to diagnose something as difficult to diagnose as ActivityPub, he ought to run his own. There is no workaround.

For those curious, the new Twtxt <-> ActivityPub bridge I’m building (bidirectional) simply requires three things:

1. You register your Twtxt feed to the bridge: https://bridge.twtxt.net
   
2. You verify that you in fact own/control the feed by putting the verification code somewhere on/in your feed (doesn’t matter where or how)
   
3. You proxy/forward requests for /.well-known/webfinger to the Bridge bridge.twtxt.net.
   

I’m still testing through and ironing out bugs 🐛 Please be patient! 🙏

If we don’t keep insisting on simplify and “The beauty of twtxt is, you put one file on your server, done. One.”, then people should just use ActivityPub-based software like Mastodon, PixelFed, etc. which are getting a lot of attention and uses migrating to the fediverse from meta/x here in Denmark over the last couple of months.

You need quant computer to host these key services. Nobody will do that. ActivityPub/Twtxt instance can be hosted on calculator

I think @abucci@anthony.buc.ci and @stigatle@yarn.stigatle.no are running snac? I didn’t have a closer look at snac (no intention of running it), but if that is a relatively small daemon (maybe comparable to Yarn?) that gives you access to the whole world of ActivityPub, then, well, yeah … That’s tough to beat.

Yes, I am running snac on the same VPS where I run my yarn pod. I heard of it from @stigatle@yarn.stigatle.no, so blame him 😏 snac is written in C and is one simple executable, uses very little resources on the server, and stores everything in JSON files (no databases or other integrations; easy to save and migrate your data) . It’s definitely like yarn in that respect.

I haven’t been around yarn much lately. Part of that is that I’ve been very busy at work and home and only have a limited time to spend goofing off on a social network. Part of it is that I’m finding snac very useful: I’ve connected with friends I’d previously lost touch with, I’ve found useful work-related information, I’ve found colleagues to follow, and even found interesting conferences to attend. There’s a lot more going on over there.

I guess if I had to put it simply, I’d say I have limited time to play and there are more kids in the ActivityPub sandbox than this one. That’s not a ding on yarn–I like yarn and twtxt–I’m just time constrained.

While reddit is trying to kill itself – the CEO doesn’t seem to care much about the community (but I don’t really care about the topic enough to know for sure) – I think Lemmy is a nice alternative. Quite minimalist, but fast, has an app that isn’t cluttered with ads, and relies on ActivityPub to federate with the Fediverse. GoToSocial seems like a promising alternative to Mastodon. It’s written in Go (👍 in my opinion), lightweight and pretty good documented so far. It’s still “alpha software” but seems to make great progress. In the past, I self hosted a microblog.pub instance and then after some time without any Fediverse profile other than my blog, which has ActivityPub support as well, signed up at Fosstodon to be able to reply to blog comments from the Fediverse. Finally I have implemented a kind of trash in GoBlog. When I delete a post, it is first marked as deleted and can be restored within 7 days. Unfortunately the integration with ActivityPub is not that easy.
