MaXX Interactive Desktop 2.2.0 released
Late last year, the MaXX Interactive Desktop, the Linux (and BSD) version of the IRIX desktop, sprung back to life with a new release and a detailed roadmap. Thanks to a unique licensing agreement with SGI, MaXX’ developer, Eric Masson, has been able to bring a lot of the SGI user experience over to Linux and BSD, and as promised, we have a new release: the final version of MaXX Interactive Desktop 2.2.0. 10 Mysterious Beach Objects
The sea is a fascinating, largely unknown realm full of both potential perils and astounding mysteries. From time to time, the ocean reminds us of its secrets and its possible dangers as incoming tides and surf deliver to our beaches and shorelines strange objects or bizarre specimens of marine life for us to examine. Many […]

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed it. The beginning part about the history of life on Earth was fun to watch having just read Dawkin’s old book The Selfish Geene, and now I want to read more about archaea. The end of the talk about what might be going on on Mars made me a bit hopeful someone will find some good evidence.
Ten Horror Games That Were Banned for Being Even Darker
We’ve already covered the ten horror games banned for being too dark, but apparently, there’s no shortage of developers willing to take things even further. Whether it’s graphic violence, real-life tragedies turned into “entertainment,” or just concepts that should’ve been rejected immediately, these games didn’t just cross the line—they removed it. Due to commenters’ demands, […]

10 Facts About the Life of Churchill’s Favorite WWII Spy
During World War II, Sir Winston Churchill declared that Polish countess Maria Skarbek—although later, she became plain Christine Granville—was his favorite spy. She earned this accolade because of her extraordinary courage and achievements as a secret agent in Nazi-occupied Poland and France. The penalty for spying was, of course, execution, usually preceded by torture. Still, […]

Show HN: Tramway SDK – An unholy union between Half-Life and Morrowind engines

I’m usually comfortable keeping my hardship to myself, most especially AWAY from the internet; an act of kindness of sorts towards others, “Everyone’s got their own problems to worry about” kind of thing..
