Thereâs all this talk and speculation about Twitter, Threads, Mastodon, Minds and so on. Meanwhile twtxt sits there, forever free and open.
Wondering how long Iâll keep twitter-related feeds (like on fraidycat, or here) before giving up on them as permanently dead.
Whelp. The suckification of social media is continuing to expand. Twitter only allows 600 tweets per day unless you pay and then its 6k per day.
Also, what a douchebag using the title âDr.â in his twitter handle. As a general rule, a white dude who isnât a medical doctor putting âDr.â in their social media title is a gigantic flashing red flag.
for context, Peterson and a bunch of other know-nothing men are reacting on twitter to an article in The Atlantic co-authored by Applebaum, who has quite a bit of expertise on the subject sheâs writing about. That doesnât seem to matter at all to Peterson, who knows nothing of these subjects but opines about them anyway. Sheâs been tweeting about these reactions and the screencapture I posted previously is one of hers about Peterson.
Looks like they edited the headline, but hereâs a receipt from twitter (well, nitter):
The more I read from this guy, the more I come to believe he is a gigantic douchecanoe. What a profoundly stupid thing to say.
Not sure how anybody can be undecided about Twitter after everything else really

I deleted my Twitter account a long time ago, but sometimes I still used Nitter to search Twitter or we linked tweets. I decided to stop that and removed Nitter from my home server and added âtwitter.comâ to the deny list at NextDNS. There are too many reasons to list here. â Read more

Trying to wrap my head around webfinger..
my first thoughts about it were that a subject of acct:me@sour.is would have a listing of relâs for the different accounts that are related to me (ie. yarn, salty, twitter, mastodon, etcâŠ)
but maybe my thinking is at the wrong level.. that each of those accounts would be on a subject level and the rels are describing different aspects of that account. so i would have salty:acct:xuu@sour.is, twitter:acct:xuu, mastodon:acct:xuu@chaos.social, yarn:acct:xuu@ev.sour.is and then i could have a main acct:me@sour.is that links them together as aliases.
I found okta will do something similar with its accounts to show as okta:acct:user@domain so maybe I am on to something?

âBloggers, Dump Your Twitter Card Tagsâ
Itâs crazy to think how much bandwidth is being used by metadata tags. Every company wants to invent itâs own new system. Wouter Groeneveld gives a brief overview and recommends getting rid of them (for the most part). I agree with him completely. The only one of these systems that my blog supports is Microformats, which is quite popular among the IndieWeb community. â Read more

While Iâm all for people moving away from platforms like Twitter and embracing more freedom- and privacy-centric systems such as Mastodon, I do worry that many of them might be doing it purely for ideological reasons and may have no interest in maintaining the respectful atmosphere Mastodon is well-known for.

Monetization usually means ads, changing the website to have people see more ads, invading peopleâs privacy to make sure theyâve seen ads⊠A single website also means one organization is in complete control. If they do what you donât want them to do, youâre out of luck.

Some people ask us why Mastodon isnât a single website. A single website that can serve the whole world requires so much computing power, infrastructure, and engineering, that it is practically impossible to do without big capital and monetization.
