Pinellas County - 5 miles: 4.99 miles, 00:08:49 average pace, 00:44:02 duration
it was chill to start out with. then saw our friends walking their dogs and said hey. and then, saw some friends driving by. and then saying hello to a bunch of people in the park. and then realized there was a 5km race in the park today. yeah, i didn’t keep it chill.

SPRC Turkey Trot: 3.10 miles, 00:10:45 average pace, 00:33:16 duration
ran with my son on his scooter. definitely took lessons from the last two years and slowed it down so he did not cut off as many people and to avoid any wipe outs. besides him complaining for the first half that he was tired (around a bunch of people running) it was fun. got to open up a bit at the end since the crowds died down around then.

SPRF Half Marathon: 13.24 miles, 00:09:44 average pace, 02:08:59 duration
started off slow partly due to congestion but also not wanting to push too hard early on after some good sessions the previous day. kept it pretty constant around 9:45-10:00 miles. starting at mile 7 i felt like i had enough in me still to keep it casual but at a slightly faster pace around 9:30. breathing was great, nothing ached, and just pushed through for a great long run session. honestly, this weekend was great.

played this by feel. such a cool day with a breeze making everything feel comfortable. at around 3 or 4 miles in i realized my pace was probably pretty quick and told myself i would just attempt to maintain. near mile five it started to hurt but just pushed through and got a pb!

In-reply-to » Three days from today, towards the end of the day, we in the US will have an idea of who the nation's presiding person will be for the next four years. In the 32 years I have lived here, I have never been more worried about an election outcome.

@quark@ferengi.one Yeah i’m in deep red here. the governor race is getting split between a red and a maga that is running a write in.. but even if they split the vote 50-50% they will still be greater than what the blue will get.

Grand Canyon Rim To Rim: 27.90 miles, 00:28:36 average pace, 13:17:46 duration
grand canyon rim-to-rim with kelly and craig. it was a blast! a lot of firsts: crazy elevation, head lamps, poles. i had a really good time and then we started to encounter some elevation. definitely could feel the altitude as soon as there was an incline. then after so many large steps up my quads started to feel it. at one point everything seized up and i fell down. luckily craig jumped in my leg and started stretching it out which helped a lot. the rest of it from there it was slow going but only once the large steps were sparse we cruised ahead. definitely would do it again.

DNF’d, but had a great time! i could have walked it out the last ten miles and still made the cut-off but after doing the math i would not have been done until about 1900 and we had guests visiting from out of town and i did not want to be even more of a wreck while entertaining. met a lot of great people and happy for the challenge.

Pinellas County - Long Run: 7.58 miles, 00:11:16 average pace, 01:25:22 duration
not as long as i would have liked. got a late start because, well, i was enjoying the sleep! then i saw at 0500 the rain was not scheduled anymore so i slept in. then it rained!

so this run was hot, no cloud cover, 90% RH and about 90F. it was brutal. but overall had to cut it short due to shivers all over the body. i was not going to push it when i may be overheating.

highlight: raced a youg boy in boca ciega park

@bmallred@staystrong.run overall this was pretty good and the run-walk intervals kept my heart rate low.

at around 0400 a car came racing (90-100 mph) down gulf blvd towards my direction. it turned its headlights off and actually lost traction at point and skidded a bit. okay, kids. then a bit later i hear the car coming back behind me… so i got as far to the right as i could in case the car skids again. as it passed me i looked over my shoulder and saw a police vehicle a bit back w/o lights on yet. then looking in front another cop and then they blocked the lanes to get the driver to stop. driver decided he wasn’t stopping and tried to swerve around the police and ended up ping-ponging between sides of the road. enough of that…

took a wrong turn after going over the first bridge, but luckily it went in a loop. didn’t really know exactly where i was going anyways and was just winging it from the get-go.

the rest of the run was pretty uneventful and just a fun experience. crazy idea accomplished.

Skyway 10km: 6.28 miles, 00:08:28 average pace, 00:53:09 duration
went in with no expectations. did not go all out but still put in a good effort. there were a lot of people (8,00 in total) and the majority were walking which is not a big deal but did mean a lot of weaving through trying to find opening. it was a great production and would do it again if i had someone who wanted to run it with me.

St Petersburg Distance Classic Marathon: 26.41 miles, 00:11:23 average pace, 05:00:39 duration
first marathon down. everything that could go wrong did. honestly i am just proud i did not quit. now i have to look at the run and figure out what i can tweak or add to my training. had a cramp start in my right quad at around mile 15. then around mile 18 both of my calves started to feel odd as if someone was lightly strumming my tendons. then they seized! this continued for the remainder of the marathon where i would walk then try to run and then stop when i had to. then during the entirety of the pace my nose would not stop dripping making it difficult to breathe. ha! also my shorts almost came down twice and i had to re-tie them while carrying my handheld water in my teeth. seriously, so many things i did not expect and had not happened in any previous runs.

really happy to be able to eat spicy food and have some alcoholic beverages again though!

Pinellas County - Long Run: 17.80 miles, 00:08:57 average pace, 02:39:13 duration
practiced a marathon pacing strategy (simulated) of 5km/10mi/10mi/5km. went pretty well even though i was going faster than the paces at each step. but overall i felt good. also scouted out one of the two overpasses i will have to climb during the race. definitely nothing compared to the regular ones. freezing! started at 33F and ended at 45F. pretty lonely out there because the cold kept everyone inside.

still host and humid (no surprise) but more cloud cover today. no kids but beth came and was able to cheer me on in a couple of places which was fun. the last bit she yelled “five to go!” which kind of got in my head a bit, albeit i think the heat started to get to me as well. had to take a couple of brief walks just to recollect and focus again. pretty good training run. keeping it in the green for the most part and around marathon pace. can’t wait to see how cooler weather and more training will pay off!

Peter Saint-Andre: Idealism and Identity
Personal identity is a deep, and deeply meaningful, subject: at some level, what’s more important than what makes you you? Paradoxically, throughout history and across cultures, often personal identity has been a social construct, tied closely to tribe, clan, family, ethnic group, race, caste, class, societal role, and so on - usually in opposition to some Other (“I’m a Capulet, not a Montague”, “I’m a proletarian, not a bourgeois”, etc.)…. ⌘ Read more
