Almost all the content I post to social media is posted by a small shell script that simultaneously posts to several services or through IFTTT duplicating those posts to services for which I lack an API key. When facebook broke automated posting, it meant my account went dark. I didnât notice.

We all know about social constructs vs reality, but there are levels of spookiness (and no upper bound). We can define them as how far a lie can go before the truth gets its boots on. Spookiness level one â money â already goes basically perpetually.

Letâs be real, here. Approximately zero of you on this social network are not also on tumblr. (And, I am cross-posting this to several social networks.) The culture isnât gonna change much with a post-tumblr exodus.

Hot take: social constructs are notoriously difficult to build universal theories about, because belief is fickle and eldrich. Talking or thinking about social constructs is liable to make them change
Science Fiction Is Not Social Reality - Motherboard https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/43pxjd/science-fiction-is-not-social-reality
Bad idea of the day: a social network where post literally fade because the contrast is computed with the inverse of time. A spinoff where bugs slowly eat away at posts.
Bunny-Girl Senpai is an interesting show. It seems to be going for a theme with the various arcs: each one seems to be about how communications media change our behavior & self-image by exerting social pressure with expectations.
In one sense, âthe computer revolution is overâ because the period of exponential growth behind the tech ended 10 years ago. In another sense, it hasnât begun: we have sheltered ourselves from the social and intellectual ramifications of computing. Documents are still simulations of paper, & capitalism still exists. So itâs like that period where printing presses existed but everybody used a faux-calligraphic font.

@tx@shroom.party A lot of the original âtextâ on social media is already an image, so sharing it as screenshot is not even the root cause.

@freemor@freemor.homelinux.net My take on this is⊠letâs let people ruin the web. Let centralized services control everything. But let us tech savvy people stick together and provide an alternative space for us. A space thatâs welcoming to those that want to join and learn. Maybe people will come over when their online actions show real life consequences. There are statistics about decreasing social media use in Generation Z. Maybe they want to learn from us Internet-Dinosaurs :)
When a social structure is flat (like twitter) all friction is between people & thereâs no ânaturalâ adjuticator except a powerful & unaccoutable adjutication class. When it has cliques (like mastodon) it can be broken down & adjuticators are limited in power.
Hot take: smashing the state of mind (i.e., producing the mental and cultural conditions for statelessness) goes beyond class consciousness & requires almost everybody to âgetâ social dynamics in cybernetic terms, at scale. Itâs an anti-specialization; heuristics wonât suffice. Communities exist that already do this (ex., kink).

Hot take: the ârule of lawâ is only possible because social norms have made deviations from desired behavior rare. The policeman in your head does the heavy lifting. When norms diverge from law, norms win.
