@prologic@twtxt.net Germany was listed as “opposing” on https://fightchatcontrol.eu/ for a while, now it’s back to “undecided”. According to netzpolitik.org, it’s still debated. Also according to that page, there could be an important vote on the EU level on October 13/14.
The green party and the (far) left are opposing this (at least in Germany). Sadly, Germany is leaning more right with every year … As for young people: The (far) left is the strongest party among young people, with the (far) right being the second strongest one. (https://www.tagesschau.de/wahl/archiv/2025-02-23-BT-DE/umfrage-alter.shtml) Is there cause for hope? I don’t know.

500 rokov evanjelického cirkevného zboru v Partizánskej Ľupči
V Partizánskej Ľupči si dnes, v 14. nedeľu po Svätej Trojici, cirkevný zbor ECAV pripomenul dve významné udalosti – 500. výročie svojho založenia a zároveň Pamiatku posvätenia matkocirkevného chrámu Božieho. Slávnostné Služby Božie sa niesli v duchu vďačnosti za stáročia zachovanej viery, duchovného dedičstva i bohatých dejín. San Francisco Billboards - August 2025
Every time I take a Lyft from the San Francisco airport to downtown going up 101, I notice the billboards. The billboards on 101 are always such a good snapshot in time of the current peak of the Silicon Valley hype cycle. I’ve decided to capture photos of the billboards every time I am there, to see how this changes over time. ⌘ Read more
Why is it that I hate packing so badly? I gotta have to brace myself up to start that now.
The outlook is poor, rain all the way until maybe the last day of summer camp. Definitely bringing my gummies, they are well needed, the weather report announces several days with up to 14 liters per square meter.

18 rules of Software Engineering
- You will regret complexity when on-call
- Stop falling in love with your own code
- Everything is a trade-off. There’s no “best” 3. Every line of code you write is a liability 4. Document your decisions and designs
- Everyone hates code they didn’t write
- Don’t use unnecessary dependencies
- Coding standards prevent arguments
- Write meaningful commit messages
- Don’t ever stop learning new things
- Code reviews spread knowledge
- Always build for maintainability
- Ask for help when you’re stuck
- Fix root causes, not symptoms
- Software is never completed
- Estimates are not promises
- Ship early, iterate often
- Keep. It. Simple.
Solid list, even though 14 is up for debate in my opinion: Software can be completed. You have a use case / problem, you solve that problem, done. Your software is completed now. There might still be bugs and they should be fixed – but this doesn’t “add” to the program. Don’t use “software is never done” as an excuse to keep adding and adding stuff to your code.

The length of file names in early Unix
If you use Unix today, you can enjoy relatively long file names on more or less any filesystem that you care to name. But it wasn’t always this way. Research V7 had 14-byte filenames, and the System III/System V lineage continued this restriction until it merged with BSD Unix, which had significantly increased this limit as part of moving to a new filesystem (initially called the ‘Fast File System’, for good reasons). You might wonder where this unusual … ⌘ Read more
