Jå me tinha queixado disto por aqui: quem é a comunicação social para decidir quem são ou não os candidatos presidenciais? A Lei é quem define estas coisas, não uma mão pouco cheia de cadeias televisivas. Que eles tenham escolhido fazer debates antes de haver candidatos é uma decisão que eles tomaram, e que não pode ser usada como desculpa para apontar dedos e decidir quem são os candidatos de primeira e de segunda. Até haver candidatos, hå propostas de candidatura - e elas são bem mais que oito - todas iguais perante a lei, e perante os cidadãos.

“Ah, mas estes sĂŁo quem tem mais probabilidade de chegar a algum lado” dirĂŁo, mas o perigo estĂĄ exactamente aĂ­ - Ă© ao retratar estes oito como “os candidatos” (no discurso utilizado nem referem que hĂĄ outros!) que a comunicação social interfere, e faz levar os eleitores a estes em detrimento de outros.

JĂĄ levaram a extrema direita ao colo, nĂŁo aprenderam nada.
Gostava agora de saber se partidos como o @LIVRE@LIVRE vão apoiar queixas destas: também eles jå tiveram neste papel de ostracizados pela comunicação social (lembram-se da petição pela justiça nos debates das Europeias?).

@prologic@twtxt.net Germany was listed as “opposing” on https://fightchatcontrol.eu/ for a while, now it’s back to “undecided”. According to netzpolitik.org, it’s still debated. Also according to that page, there could be an important vote on the EU level on October 13/14.

The green party and the (far) left are opposing this (at least in Germany). Sadly, Germany is leaning more right with every year 
 As for young people: The (far) left is the strongest party among young people, with the (far) right being the second strongest one. (https://www.tagesschau.de/wahl/archiv/2025-02-23-BT-DE/umfrage-alter.shtml) Is there cause for hope? I don’t know.

I wasn’t really aware until recently that programs can’t choose their own window’s position on Wayland. This is very weird to me, because this was not an issue on X11 to begin with: X11 programs can request a certain position and size, but the X11 WM ultimately decides if that request is being honored or not. And users can configure that.

But apparently, this whole thing is a heated debate in the Wayland world. đŸ€”

18 rules of Software Engineering

  1. You will regret complexity when on-call
  2. Stop falling in love with your own code
  3. Everything is a trade-off. There’s no “best” 3. Every line of code you write is a liability 4. Document your decisions and designs
  4. Everyone hates code they didn’t write
  5. Don’t use unnecessary dependencies
  6. Coding standards prevent arguments
  7. Write meaningful commit messages
  8. Don’t ever stop learning new things
  9. Code reviews spread knowledge
  10. Always build for maintainability
  11. Ask for help when you’re stuck
  12. Fix root causes, not symptoms
  13. Software is never completed
  14. Estimates are not promises
  15. Ship early, iterate often
  16. Keep. It. Simple.

Solid list, even though 14 is up for debate in my opinion: Software can be completed. You have a use case / problem, you solve that problem, done. Your software is completed now. There might still be bugs and they should be fixed – but this doesn’t “add” to the program. Don’t use “software is never done” as an excuse to keep adding and adding stuff to your code.

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org there are times that it works out to reply to the “flat” conversation, if it fully relates, or the participants are few, or if the strict topic is kept. When there are too many people, or too many topics being spit out, then forking constantly is the way to go. I am a strong proponent of forking. It’s like telling the rest, “you debate that there, I will take this one aside”.
