In the summer of ‘22 I upgraded my perfectly working soundcore Liberty 2 Pro to the Liberty 3 Pro because they have ANC and have been using them ever since. But since the L2P are still working perfectly, I connected them to my phone again and use them sometimes. I was just looking at SSD prices and wow, have they gone up! Last year in May I ordered a Crucial P5 Plus with 1 TB for 79,99 €. In the late summer of last year, the price was as low as 59,90 €. But now the lowest price I can find is 92,81 €, the second lowest is 134,28 €. 😱 Seems like I should wait a bit before buying a new drive to back up all the tape videos… ⌘ Read more

If snow fall on the mountains is reducing so much, and this snow acted as a water reservoir formed in Winter to get through the warmer, dry summers, then we should start creating huge water reservoirs on top of mountains; pumping the water up there when it rains.

The hottest 21 days ever recorded on Earth were the last 21 days.

There are climate scientists saying that this summer will be the coolest summer of the rest of our lives. It won’t get cooler.

They can say that with confidence because Earth’s energy imbalance–the difference between how much energy comes in versus how much is radiated back to space–has been positive since around 2010. Prior to that, the balance would shift negative sometimes, so Earth would radiate a bunch of energy back into space. Not anymore. Earth is an energy sponge now. And net positive incoming energy means temperatures go up.

Climate disaster has been here for awhile, but it’s kicking into high gear now. This will not change until we take drastic action.

Last year I set out to rekindle my reading habit. That went well. This year’s reading has been enjoyable, but I’m not cozy with the ratio of non-fiction to fiction I’ve read this year…non-fiction (especially of the computing persuasion) far out balances the fiction I’ve read. I think this is mostly because I’ve been mired amidst a fiction book that I’ve found to be a slog…but enjoyable, too. I’d have abandoned it and moved on, elsewise. Onward!

I’ll visit South-East Europe (Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Constantinople) this Summer
I’ll be in south eastern Europe this summer (of 2023) in late June and early July.

Specific plans are still in the air, but I’ll be visiting Greece, Albania, Montenegro and possibly the European side of Turkey.
I’ll also be in Kosovo, and while I know I have some fans in Serbia, I’m not sure I can cross into Serbia proper easily since the US accepts Kosovo as independent, but I believe that being there would be a … ⌘ Read more
