We will never forget.

Today, eight years ago, a group of humans, guided by a political agenda, a deep hatred towards the United States, and a mad religious fanaticism slammed airplanes into the World Trade Center, destroying the Twin Towers, damaging other buildings, and killing almost 3,000 people. A second airplane hit The Pentagon, and a … ⌘ Read more

KDE 4.2 in Nixpkgs/NixOS

Image

We now have a fairly complete set of KDE 4.2 packages in Nixpkgs
and NixOS. Previously we had KDE 3.5, but it was rather
incomplete: just kdelibs and kdebase.
Now we have all that desktop goodness, such as
kdemultimedia, kdenetwork and kdegames.
You can enable KDE 4 in NixOS by setting the
services.xserver.sessionType option to
kde4. Thanks go to Yury G. Kudryashov, And … ⌘ Read more

That 3:00AM call
Comment posted on Larry David: On the Red Phone

“It’s 3AM and your children are sleeping. But the phone is ringing. It’s your mortgage lender, calling to let you know that you are 180 days late on your payment for that crazy mortgage you agreed to. It doesn’t matter, because your phone was disconnected a long time ago. But no worries, Hillary Clinton is working late, at some desk somewhere, doing a Sudoku puzzle … ⌘ Read more

Microsoft is a crying baby
What does Microsoft do when they don’t get it their way? They cry like babies, they snitch and they try to use their mu$cle to get things their way.

Microsoft Urges Review of Google-DoubleClick Deal – Microsoft, a veteran defendant of epic antitrust battles in the United States and Europe, is urging regulators to consider scuttling Google’s plan to buy DoubleClick, an online advertising company.

Small catching up
Last week was a busy week. The Exchange server went into ¾ full production and, yes, it crashed. For the first time I had to recover the PRIV and PUB databases and the server wasn’t been on production not even a week! Oh boy…

I got the Lingo gateway (VoIP gateway, that is) and the quality is excellent, while reaching their technical support is close to impossible. When I finall … ⌘ Read more

Brainstorming
Some of you might have noticed that I changed things around a little bit. I am still not decided what to have in here, but the actual interface will do for now, even though at time you might see the “blue” one that I had for quite a while before.

I have eliminated the categories, even though I still use them when writing entries. Tomorrow –or the day after tomorrow– I will be upgrading to 1.3-prealpha, which contains some code to allow clean URI’s across the whole site (with the exception o … ⌘ Read more

Life with an XPS
Three weeks ago I finally got motivated — read Kim gave me an ultimatum — and sold my two Rolleiflex at eBay. The main purpose of selling them was to buy a digital camera, to replace the one I don’t have. But after consideration of:

  1. The one I wanted was too expensive.
  2. The body did not come with a lens.
  3. I barely have time to take pictures.
  4. KM has monopolized our home workstation.

I decided that the b … ⌘ Read more

Good bye October, hello November!
Today was a long day. I went to the dentist in the morning, with no little stress. Even though I has been going to the dentist since I was 5 years old, when I grew older I also grew a fear of them, I do not know why. Got to the dentist at 10:30 AM and, between x-rays and “impressions” (they put like a mold on your mouth to create a replica of your tooth in plastic), explanations and work (a crown), I ended up staying for almost 3 hours. I do have to admit that it … ⌘ Read more
