Tell HN: X is opening any tweet link in a webview whether you press it or not
Just saw the CEO of Substack celebrating traffic from X/Twitter shooting up thinking they stopped suppressing tweets with links[0]. Actually, this traffic is because now any time you open a tweet with a link, the in-app webview loads in the background, and displays when you press the link.

I run an ecom store that gets a lot of its customers from Twitter. I was also shocked to see my traffic double or triple overnight and thought the algorith … ⌘ Read more

Social media is in a worrying state. TikTok in the hands of autocratic China, X (formerly Twitter) in the hands of Elon Musk, who gets crazier every day and hangs out too much with Donald Trump (and recommends a fascist party in Germany), and now Mark Zuckerberg with Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Threads) is also joining the group of friends around Trump and removing fact checks in the name of “free speech”. What could possibly go wrong? ⌘ Read more

I’m usually comfortable keeping my hardship to myself, most especially AWAY from the internet; an act of kindness of sorts towards others, “Everyone’s got their own problems to worry about” kind of thing.. But maaan am I starting to believe creating a twitter account would be a healthy decision 🤣🤦 Read nothin’ out there, just a one way echo chamber of sorts to let that shi_ out of my chest. It seem that’s what everyone else’s been using it for all this time.

A Bsky would be even better! 😂 I’d get to shi_ post and yap all I want, allll the way from terminal and never ever have to look back at it or whatever comes out of it. But I digress…

I FU_ing despise this … whatever this is. I wish I could just wake up in some sort of parallel universe where everything is just sunshine and rainbows, alas, life would be just as meaningless.

and sorry you had to read this if you did.

In-reply-to » One benefit with bluesky is your username is also a website. And not a clunky URL with slashes and such. I wish twtxt adopted that. I have advocated for webfinger to for twtxt to let us do something like it with usernames. Nostr has something like it

@eapl.me@eapl.me why not https://domain.com/.well-known/twtxt/:domain/:user ?

the business card test is this can you write it on your business card and have someone you give it to be able to figure it out without added context?

  • phone number: yes because everyone knows what a phone number is.
  • email address: yes, everyone knows an email and their aol or prodigy will let them email.
  • twitter/x/insta/pintrest handle: no, whats a twitter? do i need to sign up?
  • domain name: yes its simple and you just type it in a browser right?
  • twtxt url: kinda? its a bit long and is that a forward slash? or a backward slash?

Btw about social: found very interesting thing about twitter:

The legal basis that X asserts in the filing is not terribly interesting. But what is interesting is that X has decided to involve itself at all, and it highlights that you do not own your followers or your account or anything at all on corporate social media, and it also highlights the fact that Elon Musk’s X is primarily a political project he is using to boost, or stifle, specific viewpoints and help his friends. In the filing, X’s lawyers essentially say—like many other software companies, and, increasingly, device manufacturers as well—that the company’s terms of service grant X’s users a “license” to use the platform but that, ultimately, X owns all accounts on the social network and can do anything that it wants with them.

⌘ Read more

This might be quite unpopular, but I truly dislike Wordle. The reason isn’t rooted on any psychological issue, it is much, much more simple: people share their Wordle result(s)—I figure they feel good about themselves—and for me it is only uneven, unaligned, wasteful noise. I don’t even want to show you an example, but I am sure you know what I am talking about.

Thank gods those posting their hideous squares have finally quieted down. LOL.

In-reply-to » (#fytbg6a) What about using the blockquote format with > ?

@sorenpeter@darch.dk this makes sense as a quote twt that references a direct URL. If we go back to how it developed on twitter originally it was RT @nick: original text because it contained the original text the twitter algorithm would boost that text into trending.

i like the format (#hash) @<nick url> > "Quoted text"\nThen a comment
as it preserves the human read able. and has the hash for linking to the yarn. The comment part could be optional for just boosting the twt.

The only issue i think i would have would be that that yarn could then become a mess of repeated quotes. Unless the client knows to interpret them as multiple users have reposted/boosted the thread.

The format is also how iphone does reactions to SMS messages with +number liked: original SMS
