The other day, after a discussion online, we came to the conclusion that using awk+sed+tr could replace much of the development that requires a database. However, using SQLite to have a SQL syntax isnât a bad idea either. What do you think?

Itâs a lot of fun to have a calendar system.
@prologic@twtxt.net oops, Iâm sorry to see disagreement leading to draining emotions.
It remind me a bit of the Conclave movie where every part wanted to defend their vision and there is only a winner. If one wins the other loses. Like the political side of many leaders and volunteers representing a broad community. I donât think thatâs the case here. Most of us (in not all) should âwinâ.
I can only add that isnât nice to listen that âmy idea and effortâ is not what the rest of the people expect. I personally have a kind of issue with public rejection, but I also like to argue, discuss and even fight a bit. âA gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials,â they say.
This exercise and belonging to this community also brings me good feelings of smart people trying to solve a human and technical problem, which is insanely difficult to get ârightâ.
I genuinely hope we can understand each other, and even with our different and respectful thoughts on the same thing, we might reach an agreement on whatâs the best for most people.
Good vibes to everyone!
#testing @ Hi Bob, nice to meet you!
If we donât keep insisting on simplify and âThe beauty of twtxt is, you put one file on your server, done. One.â, then people should just use ActivityPub-based software like Mastodon, PixelFed, etc. which are getting a lot of attention and uses migrating to the fediverse from meta/x here in Denmark over the last couple of months.

I did not forget twtxt⊠itâs just that I was always sick the last months, nothing serious but enough to take all my free time.
You can find the #twtxt-el channel in Libera IRC to talk about the twtxt.el client, I will keep my connection open so you can ask me questions. Thank you!

Hi everyone,
Iâve drafted a Request for Comments (RFC) to improve how threads work in twtxt:
https://git.mills.io/yarnsocial/twtxt.dev/issues/18
Iâd love your feedback! Please share your thoughts on anything that could be better explained, check if the proposed dates work for everyone, and I invite you to join the discussionâŠ
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org i appreciate you updating this with that info. been in the weeds at work so havenât been tracking the conversation here much. let me sit on this for a bit because often times the edits are within seconds of first post so maybe maybe i just allow them within a certain time frame or do away with them all together. i really only do it because it bugs me once i notice the typo :)
@eapl.me@eapl.me There are several points that I like, but I want to highlight number 7. https://text.eapl.mx/a-few-ideas-for-a-next-twtxt-version #twtxt
Hey everyone!
About the idea of improving the âthreadâ extension, what if we set aside March 2025 to gather proposals and thoughts from everyone? We could then vote on them at the end of the month to see if the change and migration are worth it.
The voting could include client maintainers (and maybe even users too). That way, we get a good mix of perspectives before taking a decision in a decent timelapse.
What do you think? If this sounds good, we can start agreeing on this. Let me know your thoughts!

Sitting in urgent care for two hours⊠Doesnât seem too urgent :-)
@andros@twtxt.andros.dev Do edits cause problems? I sometimes make them and didnât realize it may be an issue
Question to the twtxt veterans, are we experiencing an explosion of clients or is this a regular occurrence?
I have the feeling, that I have come to a dead end with my first version of the TwtxtReader. Thatâs why Iâm stopping the project and starting again.
But of course, everyone is welcome to take a look at https://github.com/upputter/TwtxtReaderMK1
This is a joke product, right? Itâs almost âŹ100 for a box cutterâŠ
This is cool but I miss easier interaction O:)

This document is the result of a series of discussions between Robert âUncle Bobâ Martin and John Ousterhout, held between September 2024 and February 2025. The text addresses three main topics: method length, comments, and Test Driven Development (TDD).
https://github.com/johnousterhout/aposd-vs-clean-code/blob/main/README.md
This is something to read and reflect on for days.
I read a lot about Clean Code, SOLID, TDD, DDD⊠now Iâm discovering «A Philosophy of Software Design»⊠but nobody talks about the importance of the project architecture. Do we depend on the framework to do the work for us?
You know Iâm a big fan of Clean Architecture, but I feel alone when I share my thoughts on social media or at work.
You have to think outside the framework.
I am going to start using this one more, or exclusively, from now on. I need to get used to it, as âquarkâ will be gone, and âbenderâ, well, he is kind of tired of getting bent. :-D
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org, @movq@www.uninformativ.de well, there goes my theory. We (the people) keep insisting on fudging things up.
I spent this Monday afternoon back from work, drawing myself as the âyou made it to Friday sailorsâ dog. Totally unrelated to the 3 hours wasted on meetings, pretending to discuss great suggestions from high management, nobody else wants to implement.

I suspect the problem is that the content is updated. It looks like a design problem.
@aelaraji@aelaraji.com Can you give me examples of hashes that you have detected wrong between Emacs client and twtxt.net?
Perhaps there is some character, some space, that is creating the discrepancy.

I really like the concept of âtwtâ. Itâs the perfect blend of txt and twtxt. An abbreviated form. Even though itâs the name given to posts, I personally find it very nice.

button?
I donât think so, at least the tests I did passed. If youâre pretty sure itâs a bug, please create an issue in the repository with the specific case and Iâll investigate it.
There are 2 buttons to make replicas, one makes a replica in the thread where the twt is located (this is the one that should be used the most, as it serves a thread), the other creates a replica to a specific twt.
Iâll let you know a bit about the status: Iâm just now implementing the thread screen. There you can be sure where you are. Itâs a bit confusing right now, sorry. I think the client is still in alpha. When Iâve finished what Iâm doing, and the direct message system, Iâll freeze development and focus on creating more tests, looking for bugs and making small visual adjustments.
oh cool @lyse@lyse.isobeef.org !! and thanks, got rid of that empty line. ATM Iâm using twtxt very much in an experimental way, only manual editing or writing my tools. curious to see how it will evolve. #meta #twtxt

Something interesting to think about for twtxt

The biggest challenge of ActivityPub is that itâs too technical to easily explain to regular people. Nobody is interested in a jargon-laden diatribe about servers and federation. When simple questions have overly complex answers, people tend to switch off.

You have a microwave oven at home, right?
You can type 3 and 0 for 30 seconds, 100 for a minute (shown as 1:00), or 200 for two minutes (2:00).
What would happen if you type 777 and Start?
A) Nothing
B) Self-destruction
C) Will run for 7 minutes and 77 seconds (boring!)
What about 7777 ?
