@movq@www.uninformativ.de I see problems with that, yes. Case in point:

It is harder to regain ownership of an IRC channel than crossing the Mexico/US border. đ
@xuu@txt.sour.is as long as I see you on IRC, bouncer or not, I donât worry. Weird, isnât it? Glad you are OK, Winterâs coming!
Thank you for the encouragement and love and kind words, @lyse@lyse.isobeef.org @movq@www.uninformativ.de @bender@twtxt.net @doesnm@doesnm.p.psf.lt and others along the way Iâm not sure of their feed uris đ Iâll keep at it, but for the time being I will keep my distance, mostly off IRC, because I donât have the energy to spare in that kind of engagement (what//if the worst happens, itâs so draining). I need to remember what I ever did any of this for, it was back in ~2020 and I wanted really to build small interconnected communities that any non âtech savvyâ person (more or less) could also benefit from ane enjoy. Even if there are aspects of the specs weâve built/extended over time that arenât âperfectââą, theyâre âgood enoughââą that theyâve last 5+ years (I believe this is 6 years running now). I want to spend a bit of time going back to why I did any of this in the the first place, and get a little micro-SaaS offering going (barely covering running costs) so encourage more folks to run pods, and thus twtxt feeds and grow the community ever so slightly. Other than that, I plan to get the specs âin orderâ to a point (with @movq@www.uninformativ.de and @lyse@lyse.isobeef.orgâs help) where I hope theyâll stand the test of time â like SMTP.
Thank you all ! đ
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Speaking of âclusterfucksâ. Every fucking time I try to type something on my fucking goddamn iPhoneâs little tiny ass on-screen keyboard it ends up typing out âI love you!â đ€ For fucks sake đ€Šââïž â Given the size of the fucking goddamn on-screen keyboards on these things and folks with limited/poor vision, canât we figure out what I meant to type instead of spitting out total garbage nonsense that I had no intention of typing that makes me just look silly and stupid?! đ€Ź Ask @bender@twtxt.net how many times this has happened on IRC whenever Iâve been on my phone đ±
@aelaraji@aelaraji.com, I mean to follow up here on the brief exchange we had on irc.mills.io, but I forgot. Never too late, so here it goes:
18:16 <aelaraji> quark đ much appreciated but it won't be necessary, since there isn't much to miss out on in most of where I hang out, so I could just disconnect and spare everyone else the noise

18:18 <quark> No noise for me.
18:18 <quark> Itâs all good.
18:18 <quark> What would IRC be without on/offs?
18:19 <quark> Preeeety boring!
18:19 <quark> Ah, he was gone.
18:19 <quark> Well, I will twtxt this to him. LOL.
anyway sup friends i hosted an IRC server
@zvava@twtxt.net I reckon thereâs currently nobody working on v2. Which timezone are you in? Just post your questions here or head over to #yarn.social at libera.chat for a more realtime conversation via IRC.
@aelaraji@aelaraji.com Cool! đ Mind joining the same IRC space? đ
@javivf@adn.org.es Sorry. đ Meet me on IRC at irc.mills.io in #edgeguard đ Iâm @james@yarn.mills.io there đ
@prologic@twtxt.net where on IRC? Network, channel, nick? IRC is vast! Itâs like saying, âmeet me in Australia, and we go from there!â đ
@javivf@adn.org.es Hit me up on IRC or something and weâll get started đ
** My not so pragmatic guide to running background services on macOS **
I self host a lot of stuffâââthese days, mostly weird little utility scripts and toys that run in the background, but also some web apps like plex, calibre, and a suite of irc things. For a long time I ran such things on a VPS, but being incredibly cheap, and hardly ever leaving my house for realsies, during the height of the pandemic I brought everything on to an aged mac mini I keep on a shelf behind some books.

@movq@www.uninformativ.de this is so real⊠i think we need to bring back topic focused groups but like with a little off topic side of things just in case people wanna go off topic. so the optionâs there but the intent is the topic! microblogging isnât best for this yeah. i think this is part of why IRC still goes strong for many tech people
@xuu@txt.sour.is As I also mentioend on IRC I think this is a. bug?
irc.mills.io running behind Caddy Layer 4. However I don't terminate TLS at the edge in this case.
@bender@twtxt.net Sure! đ

irc.mills.io running behind Caddy Layer 4. However I don't terminate TLS at the edge in this case.
@prologic@twtxt.net want to share the snippet of your Caddyfile for irc.mills.io?
@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz At the core, you need an ngircd.conf like this:
[Global]
Name = your.irc.server.com
Password = yourfancypassword
Listen = 0.0.0.0
Ports = 6667
AdminInfo1 = Well, me.
AdminInfo2 = Over here!
AdminEMail = forget.it@example.invalid
[Options]
Ident = no
PAM = no
[SSL]
CertFile = /etc/ssl/acme/your.irc.server.com.fullchain.pem
KeyFile = /etc/ssl/acme/private/your.irc.server.com.key
DHFile = /etc/ngircd/dhparam.pem
Ports = 6669
Start it and then you can connect on port 6667. (The SSL cert/key must be managed by an external tool, probably something like certbot or acme-client.)
Iâm assuming OpenBSD here. Havenât tried it on Linux lately, let alone Docker. đ
@kate@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz I already have my IRC server irc.mills.io running behind Caddy Layer 4. However I donât terminate TLS at the edge in this case.
is it like⊠ethical to offer access to certain self hosted services as patreon exclusives. like i wanna offer the IRC client/bouncer i hosted which seems ok i think because iâve seen pico.sh offer their instances of that as paid services. but the other ones i have in mind are alt web frontends for stuff like imgur and pinterest. and i just feel weird about it for some reason. idk iâm trying to think of ways to support my server stuff but every time i come up with something it feels weird
@movq@www.uninformativ.de i tried ngircd but couldnât figure it out T__T i left it at the web client and bouncer for now but i might toy with an IRC server another time!
@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz ngircd is nice: https://ngircd.barton.de/ You can absolutely host this on your server for you and your friends (Iâve been doing that for a very long time). Actually peering with something like libera is hard, though, because they have strict requirements and a lot of traffic. Then again, thereâs no real benefit in peering, actually. IRC is pretty âdecentralizedâ anyway and people are usually used to connecting to several networks, so joining another one isnât a big deal, imho. đ
guys i may be stupid. i confused IRC bouncer with IRC server
@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz I skimmed through the gamja docs and they say you need an âIRC WebSocket serverâ â no idea what that is. Does gamja not speak IRC directly but essentially âIRC over HTTPâ? Curious. đ€
@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz i JUST want my own IRC server for fun. that is all i want
hey everyone iâve spent my whole day trying to set up soju + gamja in docker and now i am down a rabbit hole of building caddy with layer4 support and trying to get TLS for my IRC server and NOTHING IS WORKING
@prologic@twtxt.net so, where is the irc.mills.io leaf, connecting to Libera? đ€
@andros@twtxt.andros.dev I honestly think IRC is better anyway đ€Ł
@bender@twtxt.net IRC man đ€Ł
@kate@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz @eldersnake@we.loveprivacy.club @abucci@anthony.buc.ci â Iâve already spoken to @xuu@txt.sour.is on IRC about this, but the new SqliteCache backend Iâm working on here, what are your thoughts regarding mgirations from old MemoryCache (which is now gone in the codebase in this branch). Do you care to migrate at all, or just let the pod re-fetch all feeds? đ€
@prologic@twtxt.net, from IRC:
- Saving preferences is failing. Specifically trying to save âOpen Linksâ on the same window. For sure it isnât happening. Check errors on browserâs console.
- Search results pagination is broken. Search for âtwtxt.netâ and see it. Also, picking oldest/newest makes no difference on that search query.
Mathieu Pasquet: Poezio 0.15 / 0.15.1
About three years since the last version, poezio 0.15 (and 0.15.1 to address
a small packaging mishap, version numbers are cheap) was released yesterday!
Poezio is a terminal-based XMPP client which aims to replicate the
feeling of terminal-based IRC clients such as irssi or weechat; to
this end, poezio originally only supported multi-user chats.
Not a lot this time around⊠Maybe next time?
