In-reply-to » (#bf5yqda) @mckinley Yes, I'm still with jmp.chat, and still very happy with them overall. Their beta period ended and their pricing increased a bit, so that's worth a bit of consideration. I also managed to get one of their eSIMs. I'm slightly less happy with that aspect of their service, though they seem to be actively working on improving it and I knew in advance this was an early beta kind of thing and likely to have issues.

@jmjl@tilde.green I’m sorry that I’m not super knowledgeable about alternatives to jmp.chat but I’ll tell you what I know.

You’re probably right about jmp.chat not working for you, at least as it is now. You can only get US and Canadian phone numbers through it last time I checked, so if you’re not in either of those countries you’d be making international calls all the time and people who wanted to call you would be making international calls too.

I’ve seen people talk about using SIP as an intermediary: you can bridge SIP-to-XMPP, and bridge SIP-to-PSTN (PSTN = “packet switched telephone network”, meaning normal telephone). You can skip the SIP-to-XMPP side if you’re comfortable using a SIP client. I don’t know very much about SIP or PSTN so I am not sure what to recommend, but perhaps this helps your search queries.

There are a fair number of services like TextNow that let you sign up for a real telephone number that you can then use via their app (I wouldn’t use TextNow–they had tons of spyware in their app). I don’t know if that kind of service works for you but if it does perhaps you’d be able to find one of them that isn’t horrible. This page (https://alternativeto.net/software/jmp-chat/) has a bunch of alternatives; I can’t vouch for any of them but maybe it’s a starting point if you want to go this route.

Good luck!

@prologic@twtxt.net hmm, now I get this:

$ ssh -p 2222 -i PRIVATE_GITHUB_KEY GITHUB_USERNAME@cas.run add | sh
sh: 135: docker: not found

The quickstart says:

## Quick Start

  ssh -p 2222 cas.run add | sh

so that’s why I tried this command (I had to modify it with my key and username like before)

Edit: 🤦‍♂ and that’s becasue I don’t have docker on this machine. Sorry about that, false alarm.

heyyy sorry about all the duplicate posts you got in your rss feed. i had
changed my directory structure to organize my posts by year, instead of a single
flat directory of posts, and then published it.

after some time, i’ve decided that i enjoy the simplicity, programming-wise, of
just a single flat directory of posts, so i’ll probably be moving back to that.
when i go back to using a flat directory of posts, though, it’ll all be done

My connecting train was cancelled, so I decided to go for a night walk with a bit of a detour. It was absolutely worth it, saw a rabbit in front of me crossing the road and the clear sky in the forest made the stars pop nicely. Also super quiet once I left the city and the overgrown paths in the woods were incredibly dark. It was very, very hard to even make out the way. Luckily, I’ve walked it many, many times, so anticipating turns was doneable. Quite an adventure! Took me about 1:15 hours to reach home about 15 minutes ago. So I won’t make it to today’s call, sorry mates. I’ll hopefully sleep like a rock in a few minutes.

Maybe I should write down my political views and thoughts in extra posts on my German blog in the future, instead of putting them in the monthly review and then translating them as well. English readers probably won’t get much out of it… Sorry! ✌️ ⌘ Read more

@adi@f.adi.onl Ugh sorry for not replying. If the file list is dynamic, usually you use something like autoconf to generate the Makefile. I’ve also used wildcards in the past and that works okay. You should be able to use shell commands to populate the file list.

In-reply-to » @movq Another feature request: sometimes I start writing a twt but then would like to discard it. It would be great if jeny could detect that I did not wrote (or saved) anything and then discards the twt instead of creating an "empty" one.

@movq@www.uninformativ.de I don’t by your example (rebasing behaviour), sorry.

Writing a twt is more similiar to writing a commit message. Git does quite some checks to detect that nothing new was written and happily discards a commit if you just leave the editor. You don’t need any special action, just quit your editor. Git will take care for the rest.

But it’s OK as it is. I just didn’t expect that I have to select and delete all to discard a twt. So it’s C-x h C-w C-x C-c for me.

@prologic@twtxt.net I knew you were short sided from day one I saw Yarn. On desktop everything is huge, and I assumed it was to cater short-sightedness. Also, you have enabled underlines on buttons on iOS, bold and bigger fonts, etc., so that was also a give away. Sorry if I digress, but, glasses wouldn’t help? I have to wear mine all the time, otherwise I am also near blind myself!

Short Notice: Appearing on Millenniyule TONIGHT at 7PM New York Time
Sorry for the short notice, I’ve been busy for the holidays, but I’ve been asked to be interviewed on Millenniyule in less than two hours from when I’m posting this. I’m scheduled for 7PM to as late as 9PM New York time.

The livestream will be on this channel (i.e. not my own due to bandwidth issues).

I am sorry I was late
I can explain why I was so late, I swear.

I woke up this morning after a brilliant two hours of sleep and went to milk the cow. She did not really have much, so the cereal kinda blew. Anyways, as I turned on my red 1993 Chevy Malibu I realised the garage was not opening. Great, the power was down! I went upstairs with a broom and woke up the hamster, which must have fallen asleep on the job. It took some deliberation, taking a full three minutes to get the power working again.
