@movq@www.uninformativ.de @itsericwoodward@itsericwoodward.com Hahaha, a festival, indeed! :-D There was also “Raupenkrieg” (caterpillar war): jumping against each other in sleeping bags. I reckon that counts as pogo or mosh pit.

And back in the days, we had wonderful deep mud all around us, too! In extreme years we even needed to leave the camp ground for a day and walk to a gym with all the kids. There was just too much rain and the creek dangerously high.

We once had an actual creek running through the dining tent before the kids arrived. Luckily, it didn’t originate from the official creek, but the water came down the hillside. Unimaginable today with all these droughts in summer. Many creeks around here are dried up for several weeks, if not months now.

It was a question of the mindset. Once we supervisors just made the best out of it and tried to had fun, the kids typically didn’t mind the mess either. Besides building huts, one of the most favorite things ever was actually “Matschschöpfen” (scooping mud). The kids scooped puddles into wheel barrows using giant soup ladles from the kitchen. “Sorry kids, time is up for today. Whoever sits in the closing circle first gets to go first tomorrow.” Unfortunatly, I don’t find any photos from that.

@david@daiwei.me Hahaha! The thing is, it doesn’t taste as good in summer as in winter for some unknown reason. Two or three decades ago I asked my grandma to bake some of her amazing gingerbread in summer. But she always refused, claiming that this only really works in winter. Of course, I didn’t believe that. Finally, after years of begging and pleading, she finally made a tray. And to my surprise, she was right. It wasn’t bad, no, no, not at all. It was really yummy. But the gingerbread in winter was just better. :-/

Maybe I should give it a shot myself. Perhaps she slightly changed the recipe on purpose. So that I will never break the tradition of seasonal food again. :-P It worked, at least I never asked her to bake gingerbread in summer again. :-D

The dairy farm has a new milk vending machine. The prices increased by 20%. One liter is now 1.20€ instead of 1.00€. But I don’t complain.

In a few meters of shrubs there were easily 50 butterflies. That was crazy, I’ve never seen this many in one spot. I should have taken a video.

The grain field in the beginning was looking so great. Crazy colorful and very yummy looking. I would have loved to take a bite. Or at least lie down right in the middle.

That was another great time in the outdoors. The 21°C were killing us, though. We were always glad when we reached a shady spot with a little breeze. I’m not gonna survive the 35°C later this week. :-(

↳ In-reply-to » @kiwu I returned home from an on-site week at work. Commute was an adventure every day. It started off with a canceled train on Monday morning. Luckily, some very good mates granted my asylum. But even with shorter rides, I faced delays due to fuckwits on the tracks, then the train was terminated early due to the large delay, so we had to change trains. On the bright side, they then sent an entirely empty one, but I don't get why they just didn't continue with the first one instead. Due to another delayed train I didn't catch my connection and the next one was canceled, so I had to wait for the following one. Super great fun. I'm very exhausted now and am very glad that I had already filed in flex time for tomorrow before the on-site event was scheduled.

But it was also a giant food orgy. We had mountains of pretzels, waffels and sweets on top of regular lunch at the canteen, food truck and pizza delivery. Yummy!

Before we were sexually herrassed by flying ants in the end, we picked the first blackberries of the season on today’s hike. Very yummy, let me tell you!

First forest blackberries picked and eaten

It’s super dry everywhere, just have a look at the dried out grass in the first two photos. Two nights ago we had the first and biggest forest fire about eight kilometers away. The newspaper article claims that 7,000 m² (sic!) of forest were on fire. In the morning of that day the district fire chief introduced the new alarm plan for forest fires. Eight fire brigades responded with 83 fire fighters in 17 vehicles. Eight trucks shuttled 30,000 liters of water to the scene. Luckily, four and a half hours later they had it under control. A fire fighting drone specialists department of a neighboring fire service located several pockets of embers. I wasn’t even aware, that we have such specialists here in the county, pretty cool. Unfortunately, one fire man probably broke his Achilles tendon in this fire run, the article says.

Other than that, there had been four other wildland fires with a hedge, bunch of trees, a 20,000 m² big stubble fields and another vegetation fire since June in our county. I actually didn’t know that. Well, that’s all nothing compared to the fires they have in East Germany at the moment.

Yesterday, we had a heavy thunderstorm in the evening. At first it wasn’t too bad, just thunder in the distance and then a few drops of rain for at most five minutes. That was it. Alright, I thought, it’s over, let me call a mate and walk to the dairy farm. The heavy clouds looked awesome, a bit threatening but mostly harmless and just beautiful. We decided on a small detour to the home made ice cream vending machine and got ourselves some expensive, but very yummy pineapple/mint, yoghurt and raspberry/basil tubs. Mint was super strong, had to eat three spoons of some other flavors to actually taste it. A few spoons in and then the thunder rolled in from nowhere. So we quickly headed for the dairy farm while eating our ice creams. Half way there the sky floodgates opened and we took cover under a tree at the local playground. A minute later we decided to climb up the slide tower, because it had a proper roof. A tiny bit of hail cam down, but nothing serious.

About 15-20 minutes the rain stopped and the thunder and lighning rolled past. So we continued our journey and I finally filled my two one liter bottles successfully. Every now and then it drizzled a little bit through the forest. We reached our homes and a couple minutes later rain hit again. Thunder and lighning went crazy. The sky lit up every few seconds and this continued through half of the night.

Right after I hung up to meet my mate, another mate called and reported a few villages north of us they experienced hail sized a bit under golf balls. But he luckily managed to get the car in the underground carpark in time.

Today, it rained the whole morning. This was great since the temperatures stayed below 20°C, so my walk was a real joy. It’s going to get close to 30°C tomorrow, though, gnarf, örks, bwäh. :-(
